Body long and slender; snout narrow and depressed; teeth blunt, molar-like or granular, multiple rows on jaws and front roof of mouth; front nostril tubular; gill opening on side; tip of tail a hard finless point; dorsal and anal fins well developed; dorsal fin origin over gill opening; pectoral fin broad based, small.
A circumtropical genus, except for the western Atlantic. There are 9 species in this genus; represent by one endemic in our region.
