Elongate; head large, a little depressed; transverse groove across nape; low keel on top of head; eyes on top of head, close together; 2-3 skin flaps on shoulder girdle; mouth large, upper jaw very long, reaching to near gill opening; pelvics fused to form disc, inserted before base of pectoral; 1st dorsal with IV-V spines; tail fin long, with blunt point; scales very small, ~ 50 irregular rows along body, imbedded, smooth.
An eastern Pacific genus with 2 species, both of which occur in our area.
