Body very elongate; head large, angular, depressed; with or without 1-4 slender cirri over eye, with or without 1 pair of short cirri on nape; surface of eye divided by fleshy bar; teeth on center but not sides of roof of mouth; dorsal fin XXII-XXV, 12-15, a notch between spines and rays; anal fin with I-II, 24-28, short, stout spines have a fleshy covering; scales very small, smooth, ~ 60-75 in lateral series.
This genus has two species, both of which are endemic to our region.
