MICROLEPIDOTUS

GRUNTS

Body an elongate oval, compressed; chin with 2 pores at front and 2 behind in a deep central hole; preopercle finely serrated to toothed, without large spines;  2nd  anal spine not much larger and thicker than 3rd  spine; dorsal fin XIII-XIV, with a shallow notch between spines and rays; pelvic fins much shorter than pectorals; body scales generally with clusters of small accessory scales at their bases; soft dorsal and anal fins with scales on membranes between rays; inside mouth not red.

The only two members of this genus are both endemic to our region.
