Ribbon halfbeak

Body extremely elongate, compressed, ribbon-like, he greatest depth 16.1-23.5 in SL;  upper jaw short and triangular, lower jaw very long, its length 2.2-2.7 in SL; jaw teeth in bands, weak, 3-pointed on lower jaw; teeth on roof of mouth and tongue; 25-32 gill rakers;dorsal rays 20-25; anal rays 20-25, its origin behind dorsal origin; pectoral rays 8, very long (> ¼ SL); dorsal and anal fins with slightly raised front lobes, origins opposite; tail deeply forked, lower lobe larger;  scales large and smooth.

Silvery on sides, bluish or greenish above; fins unpigmented.

Size: grows to 53 cm.

Habitat: surface pelagic.

Depth: 0-5 m?

Tropical and temperate seas of the Indo-Pacific; in the eastern Pacific from nothern Baja California to Ecuador and the oceanic islands.
