Flat silverside

Body relatively deep anteriorly (22.2-23.8% of SL); head short, deep (19.3-29.8% SL) ; snout short and rounded; wide and convex between eyes; upper profile curved slightly up from snout to about mid-body, then down to horizontal top of tail base; lower profile deeply convex from mouth back to end of anal fin base;  mouth oblique, opens at front, curved, top jaw extendible;  teeth on top and bottom jaws small, pointed, depressible, 2 irregular rows at front, a single row at sides; dorsal fin III-IV + I, 9-10,  origin of 1st  dorsal over or slightly behind origin of anal fin; base of last 2nd dorsal ray before base of last anal ray; pelvics reach to anus; 55-59 scales in lateral series; 23-27 predorsal scales; anal fin I, 26-29, with a well developed scale sheath of 2 rows of scales along the front 2/3 (or more) of fin base.

Silver stripe on flank relatively narrow (1.5 scale rows wide).

Size: to 10 cm.

Habitat: pelagic, coastal.

Depth: 0-10 m?

S Ecuador to Chile.
