Robust greeneye
Body elongate, relatively robust, ~oval in cross-section, width 60% depth, tapering to tail; head large, ~25% TL, rounded above, narrow below; snout long, somewhat depressed, pointed, a little less than eye length; eye large, pupil green, teardrop shaped & with a pointed space before it; space between eyes narrow (<1/2 eye), concave; mouth large, oblique, lower jaw protruding, with a knob on the chin, not reaching to under center of eye; top jaw bone slightly expanded at rear, reaches just behind front of eye, with a single small extra bone above the expanded part; teeth very small, conical, hooked towards rear, in narrow bands on jaws; teeth present on tongue, but very small, barely visible; gill openings wide; gill rakers 6+21, longest <1/2 length of eye; fins without spines; dorsal fin in front 1/3 of body, its origin ~over pelvic  fin axil, & over rear of pectoral base, 11 rays, 1st ray longest, >1/2 head; a small skin-flap (adipose) 2nd dorsal fin at rear of body over rays 8-9 of anal fin; pectorals on midflank, inserted before origins of dorsal and anal fins, 17, narrow, pointed, reach past pelvics and dorsal fin base; anal fin 11; tail fin deeply forked; anus nearer pelvic fins than anal fin, separated by only 2-3 scales from base of pelvic fins; lateral line complete; scales hard, convex, glossy, with an indistinct keel, 57-59 on lateral line.
Dark grey head and body; silvery grey on cheeks and chest; pupil green; fins grey, with dark rays; pectorals blackish, 1st dorsal with a black base; inside mouth white; lining of gill chamber, throat and gut cavity black.
Reaches 15 cm.
Lives on fine sediment bottoms.
Depth range: 17-1260 m.
