Anchoa lucida (Jordan & Gilbert, 1882)

Bright anchovy

Moderately elongate, compressed; eye large; snout short, blunt, ~ ¾ eye diameter; top jaw medium length, reaching onto interopercle, tip bluntly pointed; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; third gill arch with a few short rakers on its rear face; 18-23 lower gill rakers; no large canine teeth; dorsal fin origin in mid-body; anal fin base long, iii, 22-28 rays, origin under  or little behind center dorsal fin base; tips of pelvics reach under dorsal fin origin; pectorals long, just reach pelvic origin.

Silver stripe along flank narrow (~ ½ eye diameter); dark  at tip of chin, on nape and tail tips.

Size: 16 cm.

Habitat marine, coastal pelagic, mostly in bays, estuaries and lagoons.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

The Gulf of California to northern Peru.
