Head and body compressed; head pointed; eye large; mouth large, reaches under rear edge of pupil; conical teeth on both jaws, an enlarged outer row, and a inner band of small teeth; a single row of enlarged teeth on center and sides of roof of mouth; a short, simple cirrus at nostril, above eye and on side of nape; operculum without spines; dorsal fin XXVII, 11-13, 1st two spines raised, a shallow notch after them, front soft rays longer than longest spine first 3 spines soft and flexible, remainder sharp and inflexible; principal tail fin rays branched; anal fin II, 25-26; pectorals 14, reaches above 4th anal soft ray; pelvics I, 3, second soft ray almost reaches anal fin origin; tail fin slightly forked, all rays unbranched; lateral line complete, front straight portion 45-50 scales, bends down under ~spine XX-XXII of dorsal fin, all front pores open under scales, 63-65 scales; head, chest and belly without scales, and no scales on back above lateral line before 4th dorsal spine.

Known only from Isla Angel de la Guardia, Gulf of California.
