Callao drum

Body elongated; forehead profile straight; nape elevated and convex in profile, back moderately high; eye small; snout overhangs slightly oblique mouth that is well below eye level, mouth ends under rear edge of pupil; teeth on upper jaws in a narrow band, outer teeth close set and elongated, those on lower jaws in 2 major rows, inner row larger; chin without barbels; preoperculum smooth; 22-23 short gill rakers; dorsal fin X + I, 21-23, deeply notched between 2 parts, 4th  spine is the largest, soft dorsal with slightly convex border; anal fin with short base, slightly concave rear margin, 2nd  spine slender, ~ 2/3 length of 1st  ray, 9 rays; pectoral reaches well past pelvic tips; tail edge distinctly concave, pointed tips; scales rough, relatively large, 56-57 on lateral line, 5-6 rows between lateral line and 1st  dorsal spine.

Silvery grey-brown, paler below; scales on sides with dark streaks; fins grey;  inner base of pectoral black; inside operculum pale.

Size: 34 cm.

Habitat: soft bottoms.

Depth: 5-50m?

Perú: Paita to Callao.
