Top of head flat; snout projecting slightly, rounded when viewed from above; eyes large (4.3-4.9% of SL); bony head shield densely covered with small granules from level of eyes back; central head groove broad, shallow; bony nape process short, keeled, slightly convex, epioccipital bone at its front edge not expanded; narrow between front nostrils (distance 6.1-6.9% of SL); mouth small (width 11.1-11.8% of SL), lips thin to moderately thick; roof of mouth with 4 patches of teeth, front pair rectangular, longer than wide, joined in center, side pair broader, triangular, pointed at rear, with an indentation into which central pair fits; top barbells short (20.5-22.2% of SL); lower jaw barbels 14.1-17.1% of SL; gill opening wide, membranes not adhering to breast; gill rakers 11-13 on first arch, 12-13 on second arch, no rakers on rear surface of either arch; bony plate in front of dorsal fin narrowly crescent-shaped; dorsal fin I,7, its base long (11.2-12% of SL), its spine thin and long (21.1-22.5% of SL); anal rays 19-23; pectoral rays I,11-12, spine thin, long, slightly serrated on rear edge; tail base relatively deep (7.0-7.4% of SL); tail fin deeply forked, upper lobe longer.
Brownish grey with metallic tinges above; white below; lower tip of tail and tip of anal fin dark; pectoral and pelvics dark, with white tips.
Reaches 25.4 cm.
