Anarchias galapagensis (Seale, 1940)

Hardtail moray, Minute moray

Elongate, slender, compressed; snout short, conical, broad; eye slightly before middle of jaw; jaws about equal sized; teeth conical, two rows at front of jaws, one row on sides; front nostril tubular, pointing forward; rear nostril a hole above eye, closely associated with a large pore, giving the appearance of a double nostril opening; dorsal and anal fins scarcely apparent, developed only as skin-covered ridges near tip of tail; tip of tail hard and pointed.

Brown with starshaped whitish blotches; tip of tail white.

Size: reaches about 17 cm.

Habitat: rocky areas.

Depth: 0-61 m.

Gulf of California to the Galapagos.
