Black-fanged conger-moray, Orange conger-moray

Body elongate and very compressed; head sharp and slightly depressed; lower jaw slender, projecting slightly in front of upper jaw; eye large, oval; mouth extends back past eye, no lips; 3 rows of sharp teeth on each jaw, one on front of roof of mouth; front nostril a short narrow tube, posterior a hole with a low rim, closer to eye than snout, level with upper edge of eye; wide interorbital space; gill opening a horizontal slit under pectoral fin; pectoral fin broad and short; dorsal fin high (¼ body depth), begins in from of gill opening; tail pointed, a little longer than head and body combined; lateral line reduced to 6 small, hard to find pores on front of body (2 in front of pectoral).

Body and fins bright orange; bright yellow stripe from eye back along body above midline; many teeth with black bases.

Size: 36 cm.

Habitat: rocky bottoms.

Depth: from about 50 to 458 m.

Ecuador; the Galapagos and Isla del Coco.
