Head large (16% of TL); snout a little deeper than wide in cross-section; eye small, over center of mouth; front nostril a tube about 2/3 length of eye; posterior nostril at level of profile of head, just before front edge of eye; mouth large, straight, closes completely, lips with small papillae; teeth little compressed, with minute serrations at base of most of them, teeth in single series on jaws, none on roof of mouth; head and trunk about ½ TL; dorsal fin high (maximum height = snout + eye), its origin well before gill opening; gill opening an oblique slit, about twice size of eye; skin of body very wrinkled, wrinkles extending onto dorsal fin.
Light brown, with dark lines in wrinkles on body and dorsal fin.
Size: 98 cm.
Habitat: rocky reefs.
Depth: 1-225 m.
Northern Peru; Cocos, Malpelo and the Galapagos.
