Head small (12% of TL); snout wider than deep; head and trunk about ½ TL; eye small, over center of mouth; front nostril a tube about 2/3 length of eye; posterior nostril a hole at level of profile of head, just before front edge of eye; mouth straight, closes completely, lips with small papillae; teeth compressed, with broad bases, serrated on both sides, in single series on jaws, a single row towards rear of roof of mouth; gill opening small (12% of TL); dorsal fin very low, its origin just before gill opening; skin of body and fins smooth, without grooves.
Brown; sides of head with dark brown stripes that extend onto front of body and blend into reticulations behind gill opening; upper head and body with pale spots, mostly larger than eye, extending onto the dorsal and anal fins; front of dorsal fin with a pale edge.
Size: 51 cm.
Habitat: rocky reefs.
Depth: 1-50 m?
Ecuador and Peru.
