Enigmatic goby, Big-headed goby
Body slender, elongate; head long, depressed; 1 pore between eyes; papillae on cheek and gill cover; top jaw extends well past eye; dorsal fin IV-V (1st spine not elongate in male) + I, 16-17, both fins low, separated by about length of mouth, 1st dorsal with round border, 2nd dorsal long base, straight border; anal 16-17 rays; no flexible skin flap on shoulder in front of base of pectoral fin; tail fin long, rounded; no scales.
Head light brown; body brownish yellow; upper head and body with scattered small brown spots and streaks; dorsal fins finely striped; tail clear or translucent cream with fine curved bars.
Size: 3.8 cm
Habitat: live in holes in intertidal mud and sand.
Depth: 0-3 m.
W and central E Gulf of California.
