Panther bearded-goby
Body depressed; head robust, depressed; underside of head with 6-12 short (less than pupil diameter) barbels; 2 short barbels under eye; no median barbel at tip of snout; front of tongue with 2 lobes; front nostril tubular, points forward, rear nostril tubular, points up; pores on head, including preopercle; gill opening small to a shallow S slit along base of pectoral; dorsal fin VII + I, 10-11; 8-10 anal rays; 17-20 pectoral rays; pelvics fused into a disc; tail round; no scales.
Light tan or cream colored with numerous brown spots on side; a prominent black bar or blotch on base of pectoral fin; fins often with faint brown spotting.
Size: reaches 5.2 cm.
Inhabits rocky shores from the intertidal zone down.
Depth: intertidal to 32m.
Western and NE Gulf of California.
