Galapagos blue-banded goby
Body robust; head round; with fleshy crest along top of head and nape; mouth very oblique; head without pores; papillae around mouth, on cheeks and operculum and over eye; front nostril a long tube, rear nostril a raised rim; tongue round to blunt; 5-7 gill rakers; dorsal fin VI (1st 2-3 spines filamentous in male)+ I, 14-15 rays; 11 anal rays; 18-19 pectoral rays; pectoral rays unbranched; pelvics fused into disc; tail fin short, round, with 17 segmented rays; scales rough, body covered, none on head, nape, chest and pectoral base; 37-39 midlateral rows.
Head pinkish orange to red, with blue spots around eye and short blue bars on nape &/or operculum; body purplish brown with 8-10 narrow, dark-edged white bars.
Size: to 4.5 cm.
Inhabits rocky reefs.
Depth: 1-40 m.
