Cocos goby
Body deep and wide; head round; no crest along top of head and nape; mouth very oblique; head without pores; papillae around mouth, on cheeks and operculum and over eye; front nostril a long tube, rear nostril a raised rim; tongue round to blunt; 5-7 gill rakers; dorsal fin VI (1st spine filamentous)+ I, 12 rays; I, 10 anal rays; 21 pectoral rays; pectoral rays unbranched; pelvics fused into disc; tail fin short, round, with 17 segmented rays; scales rough, none on head, nape, chest and pectoral base; ~ 37 lateral scale rows.
Grey; body with 10 narrow brown bars with dark line in center and dark edges, and wider paler interspaces; 4 brown bars across top of head; cheeks and lower head with large cream spots in a brown reticulum; fins dusky; spinous dorsal black at rear; soft dorsal with diffuse dark streaks; tail with 6 faint vertical bars.
Size: 4.4 cm.
Habitat: rocky bottoms.
Depth: 90-150 m.
Cocos Island.
