Tomicodon absitus Briggs, 1955

Distant clingfish, Revillagigedos clingfish

Body relatively slender, elongate, head relatively slender (both viewed from above); 8-10 rakers on 2nd  & 3rd  gill arch; front nostril with short (height ~ same as diameter of nostril) skin flap; rear nostril above or slightly behind front edge of eye; 4 pairs of upper & 3 pairs of lower 3-pointed incisors, followed, on each jaw, by 1 large canine; anus ~ ½ way between sucker and anal fin origin; pectoral 20 rays; only a small fleshy swelling at pectoral base; sucker disc with broad patch of papillae at front, no papillae in center, 5-6 rows of papillae across rear section; dorsal 7 rays; anal 6-7 rays; tail 8 rays.

(Preserved fish) Upper body very pale; top of body & head covered with tiny brown spots, concentrated in 4 areas along back; prominent dark spot on flank above pectoral fin; fins clear, a pale bar across tail base.

Size: 2.3 cm.

Habitat: rocky intertidal and subtidal.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Revillagigedos Islands.
