Tadpole shaped, head broad, depressed; papillae on head poorly developed, short, none on top lip or tip of snout above top lip; top lip broad, much wider at front than at sides; rear nostril over front edge of eye, front nostril with a large 2-lobed flap; top jaws each with an irregular outer row of pointed teeth, & a patch of irregular teeth behind them, canines along side; teeth on lower jaw in 2 rows, outer row larger, 3-4 pairs of round-tipped incisors at front, followed by a row of long canines; anus nearer anal fin origin than sucker; sucker large, with papillae at front (a broad band), center (2 widely spaced patches) & rear, with 6 rows of papillae across front section, patches in center each with 1-2 longitudinal rows of papillae; a large fleshy pad with free rear edge at base of pectoral fin; dorsal fin with long base, 18-20 rays, origin over pectoral; anal rays 9-11; pectoral rays 22-23; caudal rays 11-12.
Top and sides medium grey; dorsal, tail and anal fins medium grey with lighter ray tips; pectoral clear except for dark dots along each ray; underside light grey. Preserved fish red-brown.
Size: 7.8 cm.
Habitat: rocky bottoms.
Depth: 0-5 m.
Western and northeastern Gulf of California.
