Gobiesox aethus (Briggs, 1951)

Clarion clingfish, Red clingfish

Tadpole shaped, head broad, depressed; well developed lobe-like papillae on head and along margin of upper lip; top lip broad, much wider at front than at sides; top lip broad, much wider at front than at sides; rear nostril over front edge of eye, front nostril with a large flap that has 2 large, wide lobes; top jaws each with an irregular outer row of pointed teeth, & a patch of irregular teeth behind them, canines along side; teeth on lower jaw in 2 rows, outer row larger, front 4 pairs 3-pointed;  anus a little nearer anal fin origin than sucker; sucker large, with papillae at front (a broad band), center (2 widely spaced patches) & rear; 10 rows of papillae across front section; a large fleshy pad with free rear edge at base of pectoral fin; dorsal fin short, 10 rays, origin well behind pectoral; anal rays 9; pectoral rays 23; caudal rays 10.  

(Preserved fish) Top and sides light, densely covered with tiny red-brown dots; fin rays with same dots; lower surface translucent; wide dark bar across base of tail fin.

Size: 3.7 cm.

Habitat: rocky bottoms.

Depth: 0-10 m?

Revillagigedo Islands.
