Sabertooth blenny

Body very elongate; snout conical, strongly overhanging relatively small mouth; teeth stout, not movable, with greatly enlarged canines towards front of lower jaw; gill opening greatly reduced, on flank above pectoral fin; dorsal fin origin a little before gill opening, long, low, without notch, VII-IX, 31-35; anal rays II, 27-30; pectoral rays 12-13; tail fin concave, with a long filament in center; no lateral line.

A broad brown midlateral band from snout, through eye, on mid-side of body, with narrow yellow to white stripe immediately above; dorsal fin blackish, with blue-white outer margin; lower part of head and body white.

Size: reaches 10.2 cm.

Inhabits rocky reefs in 2-20 m.

Depth: 2-25 m.

Southern California to the central Gulf of California to central Peru, and all the offshore islands except Clipperton; stray reach to California.
