Body shark-like; snout with 2 central, narrow cartilaginous crests that are widely separated throughout their length, and converge at front; spiracle smaller than eye, with 2 folds in rear border, outer fold much larger; 2 large, equal-sized, triangular dorsal fins; tail pointed above, rounded below & without lower lobe, without lateral folds; skin covered with small denticles, smooth to touch; midline of back with row of short spines back to 2nd dorsal fin; several spines on front and top edge of eye and around spiracles; 2 small clusters of spines on each shoulder, none on snout; spines larger in juveniles.

Upper surface dark grey, sometimes a few scattered pale spots on back; snout very pale, translucent, without dusky tip; lower surface white.

Size: 63 cm.

Habitat shallow soft bottoms.

Depth: 0-50 m?

The Gulf of California to northern Peru.
