Panamanian razorfish

Head and body strongly compressed; head profile steep, with a fleshy longitudinal keel at front; eye on upper ½ of head; both jaws with canines at front, lower jaw without rear canine tooth; dorsal fin continuous, IX, 12, spines regularly spaced; anal III, 12; pectoral 12; tail slightly convex; lateral line in 2 sections, rear section on tail base, 20 + 5 pored scales; head scaleless except for few scales below eye.

IP: pale pink, operculum and belly white, operculum with pink bar; pale yellow stripe along side; fins pale; TP: not known.

Size: reaches about 7 cm.

Lives on clean sand bottoms.

Depth: 10-20 m.

Known only from  Panama.

Note: Whether or not X perlas is a synonym of X mundiceps is unclear, since the TP of X perlas is unknown.
