Emerald wrasse, Longfin wrasse

Elongate, slender, compressed body; 1 pair canines at front of top jaw, 1 pair on bottom, none at rear of jaws; preopercle edge smooth; dorsal fin VIII, 12-13; anal rays III, 10-11; pectoral rays 15-16; tail fin slightly concave in IP, concave with long pointed lobes in TP;  lateral line unbroken, but bends abruptly down near end of soft dorsal fin; scales large (26-27 on lateral line), smooth; head scaleless.

IP: a dull green with redbrown spots or vertical streaks on scale centers; head densely covered with small red spots and short streaks; body with about 6 diffuse dark bars; TP: greenish blue, sometimes reddish on belly.

Size: grows to at least 30 cm.

Inhabits rocky reefs, mainly in surgy shallow waters.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Revillagigedos Islands and Clipperton, vagrants at the tip of Baja.
