Black-striped salema
Elongate, compressed; head conical, compressed; eyes large; chin with 2 pairs of pores, rear pores larger, well separated, not in a hole; mouth short, oblique, lower jaw projecting; teeth minute, in bands on jaws, on roof of mouth; dorsal fin - spiny and soft parts completely separate, X +I, 13-14, 2nd fin with shorter base than 1st fin; tail forked; anal - III small spines, 10-11 rays, soft part similar in size and form to soft dorsal; lateral- line scales 50-52.
Silvery with about 7 black stripes along side.
Size: attains 30 cm.
Habitat: forms daytime aggregations containing hundreds of individuals, along rocky shores.
Dept: 3-20 m.
Galapagos Islands.
