Orthopristis lethopristis Jordan & Fesler, 1889

Scalyfin grunt

Body slender (depth 3.0 in SL), strongly compressed; smoothly curved head profile; mouth short, ends before eye, with thin lips; chin with 2 front pores and 2 rear pores in central hole, plus a longitudinal groove; preopercle smooth, with slightly concave vertical margin; lower gill rakers 13-14; dorsal fin XII 12, 3rd  spine hightest, without notch between spines and rays; anal fin with long base, III, 9-11, 2nd spine < 3rd; pectoral long, curved, pointed; tail deeply forked; body scales without small accessory scales; 8 scale rows between lateral line and dorsal origin; soft dorsal and anal with small scales on membranes; lateral line 65 scales.

Silvery grey; orange spots in scale centers form lines along scale rows, oblique above lateral line, horizontal below; fins dusky; soft dorsal and anal sometimes speckled in large adults; opercular margin and inner base of pectoral fin black.

Size: 38 cm.

Habitat: demersal on soft bottoms.

Depth: 5-30 m?

Endemic to the Galapagos.
