Head large, very bony, with numerous low depressed spines; without pit behind eyes; eye large (~ 31% of head length); snout short, < eye diameter; stalked branched tentacle over eye, large in male; dorsal fin XII, 10, 3rd spine much longer than others, & last much longer than 11th, last ray attached along its entire length to body by membrane; anal III, 5-6; pectoral fin 17-19 rays, all unbranched; head & body covered with rough scales; lateral line with tubes on scales.
Bright red; belly pink; body, head and fins spotted and blotched with olive brown, those on head smaller.
Size: 8 cm.
Habitat: sandy and rocky bottoms.
Depth: 50-120 m?
Galapagos and Cocos.
