Body a deep oval, compressed; upper and lower head profiles convex; snout very short, blunt; bone under eye and preoperculum finely serrated; head scaled except for front of snout; bone under eye scaled; teeth conical; dorsal fin XII; upper and lower edges of tail fin base with 2-3 projecting spiny rays; scales large, </= 20 on lateral line.
An Indo-central Pacific genus with 10 species; two Indo-Pacific species introduced to the Greater Caribbean.
