PEPPERED GOBY
A small goby with a short snout; eye large; head without barbells; no head pores; front nostril tubular, rear nostril a hole with a raised rim; a groove between the upper lip and snout; no teeth on roof of mouth; gill opening a vertical slit; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; 1st dorsal with VIII spines, 1st 5-6 clustered close together, remainder more widely spaced, none elongate; 2nd dorsal fin I, 10-11; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 7-8; pectoral fins 15-17; pelvic fins I, 5, united forming a disc; tail fin rounded, 17 segmented rays; scales rough, only on tail base, in 3-4 rows, and along bottom of body from anal fin to pelvic fin, 2 very rough scales at end of tail base; no lateral line.
