Elongate; snout pointed; eyes close together (~pupil diameter); upper jaw overhangs lower; a central pore between front edge of eyes; most of upper lip completed joined to snout, free only at rear; no teeth on front of roof of mouth; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; 1st dorsal fin VI, no spines elongate; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; pelvic fins forming a circular disc; 9 thin bright blue bars on body; no scales; no lateral line.
A genus with only one species, which is endemic to the Caribbean.
