BLENNIES

Body elongate; head blunt, snout and top of head smooth, snout with or without a pair of bony ridges; lower jaw not projecting; 1 row of teeth on each side of roof of mouth; cirrus over eye, when present, single, shorter than eye, no cirri on nape; dorsal fin XX-XXI, 10-13 (rarely 14), little or no notch between the two parts; pectoral rays 13-14; anal fin II, 21; pelvics I (internal), 3, inserted before pectoral base, shorter than pectorals; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.

A W Atlantic genus with 12 species, all but one endemic to the Greater Caribbean.
