Slender, elongate, compressed; top of snout without pits, pores or tubes; top jaw extendible, premaxilla with rear end greatly expanded, without expanded bony process above its center; teeth well developed, in bands; first dorsal IV-VI spines, origin well before origin of anal; pelvics inserted nearer pectoral base than anal origin; pelvic fin either without a large scale at side or with one <1/4 length of fin; scales without scalloped edges.
