CUSK-EELS

Elongate, compressed; head bluntly pointed; eye large; a small bony bump on snout; numerous pores all over head; front nostril halfway between top lip and rear nostril; opercle with sharp, partly hidden spine; pelvic fin with 2 rays of nearly equal length; tail fin continuous with dorsal and anal; scales on body elongate, in basket-weave arrangement, somewhat overlapping; cheeks and top of head to between eyes with large scales; operculum without scales.

A W, E Atlantic and Mediterranean genus with 2 species; 1 endemic to the Greater Caribbean.
