Body elongate, oval; head profile steep; eye high on the head; adults often with horn on front of head; mouth small, protrusible, low on head; teeth small, conical, tips slightly depressed & either smooth or with multiple small points; dorsal fin IV-VII spines; pelvics I, 3; II anal spines; 2 pairs of cutting keels on plates on narrow tail base; scales very small, rough; lateral line complete.
An Indo-Pacific genus with 21 species; 1 species introduced to south Florida.
