SIGNAL BLENNIES
Body elongate; head short and blunt, without spines; 2 longitudinal ridges on snout; 1 un-branched or forked cirrus over eye that is often longer than eye, none on nape; 1 row of teeth on each side of roof of mouth; dorsal fin XVII-XXIII, 13-17, male with large, sail-like front of dorsal fin; pectoral rays 10-15; pelvic fin longer than pectoral; pelvics I (internal), 2-3, inserted before pectoral base; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.
A new world genus with 17 tropical to subtropical species; 10 are endemic to our region.
