Straightfinned Goby

Head profile sloped eyes large; front nostrils open in short tubes, rear nostrils are a hole; no head pores; teeth on top jaws in 2-3 rows at front, outer row large canines; inner rows conical, close packed; lower teeth in 3-5 rows at front, 2 behind; dorsal fin VII (1st can be very long)+ I, 9; anal fin I, 9 (8-9); pectoral fin 16-17; pelvic fins I, 5, all rays unbranched, no rays with flattened fleshy tips, fins completely separate, fins long, extend to middle or end of anal fin; tail fin blunt to slightly concave,17 segmented rays; head and nape scaleless; body scaled from above pectoral back, 22-23 rough scales in lateral series, 1-2 large, very rough scales on tail fin base, chest and abdomen each with a patch or rough scales; no lateral line.

Head and body translucent ; iris black above, yellow below; a broad oblique yellow to orange bar from eye down to rear of preopercle ; body with three series of bright yellow spots, 12-15 along dorsal profile, 8-9 along ventral profile and 13-15 along mid-flank; dorsal fins with yellow wash, sometimes yellow spots along spines; pectorals pale to yellow wash; tail fin with yellow wash, two yellow bars at its base; pelvics and anal fins translucent.

Reaches 2.3 cm

Habitat. Sand and rubble at the base of rocky areas.

Depth range 110-421 m.

Known only from Roatan and St Eustatius islands.
