Head and body deep, strongly compressed; forehead straight; snout relatively short; top jaw protrusible; rear of top jaw exposed when mouth closed, without accessory bone above it; teeth fixed; preoperculum angular, serrated, several small forward pointing spines on lower edge near the corner; gill rakers 19-22; dorsal fin X, 14, no notch after spines, membranes between spines not indented; pelvics long, reach to anus; tail fin slightly forked; lateral line scales 48-53; soft dorsal and anal fins mostly scaleless.
Ground color of head and body pale tan; snout and upper head and front of back darker grey, with a bluish cast; a prominent, wide blackish stripe from behind eye along upper flank to level of anus, continuing to end of tail base as three blackish blotches, last blotch small and vertical; eye ringed with blue; long, thin blue to whitish bars cross lateral stripe and dark blotches behind it, giving jagged edges to them; fins pale, except pelvics blue grey.
Reaches 11 cm.
Lives on reefs.
Depth range: 5-15 m.
Known only from Liberty bay, northeast Haiti
