Ember goby

Body elongate, slender, slightly compressed; eyes large (7.2-9% SL); snout very short (3.8-4.4% SL); 2 pairs of pore before front edge of eye, 1 pair between them, 1 pair behind rear edge of eyes, 1 pore before each eye, 2 pores behind each eye;  mouth  very oblique ending under front edge of pupil; front of roof of mouth without teeth;  top jaws with outer row of large, pointed in-curved teeth on premaxilla, another row of similar smaller teeth inside that; lower jaw with two rows large, pointed in-curved teeth at front, a smaller inner row at rear; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII, (flexible, none elongated) + I, 14-16; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin long based, I, 14-17; pectoral fins 18-20; pelvic fins I, 5, completely united, WITH a frenum between front spines; tail fin blunt to slightly bilobed, large males with  central 3 rays elongate; body without scales (except occasionally 2-3 large, smooth scales on tail-fin base); no lateral line.  

Head & body translucent; head with yellow to orange patches on snout, under eye and on nape, pink wash on chest and belly; iris with  yellow stripe through center;  body with bright yellow internal stripe along spinal column, sometimes with 2 narrower additional stripes; dorsal fins translucent, outer edges with orange stripe; anal fin translucent; tail fin translucent, with yellow central stripe to end of fin; pelvics translucent, with a yellow wash.

Reaches: ~2.7 cm.

Habitat: rocky slopes, sand and rubble; forms large schools.

Depth: 88-205 m.

NE, NW and S Caribbean.
