Yellowtail bass
Body moderately elongate and compressed; head pointed, curved upper profile; eye moderate; front nostrils distinctly tubular, nearer lip than are rear nostrils; mouth moderately large, slightly oblique, lower jaw slightly projecting; rear of top jaw exposed when mouth closed, corner with weakly developed hook; rear edge of preopercle serrated; no prominent spines on opercle; 18-23gill rakers; dorsal fin VIII, 14-15, weakly notched between spiny and soft parts; anal fin III, 8; pectoral fin 14-16; anus near origin of anal fin; tail slightly forked; lateral line in a broad arch to tail base, 43 pored scales.
Body pale red chest silver white; head with two yellow lines, from snout to lower edge of eye, from eye to upper edge of opercle; dorsal fin reddish, with yellow margin; anal fin pale yellow to reddish; tail fin yellow, upper and lower rays with black tips.
Reaches 15 cm
Trawled on soft bottoms.
Depth range: 27-429 m.
