Facciolella species A

Western Pikeconger, Western Pikeconger Eel

Elongate, cylindrical at front, compressed at rear; a long slender, pointed tail 67-70% TL; moderate sized eye; front nostril tubular, at level of tooth patch between front of top jaws; rear nostril a slit in top lip covered by a flap, just before eye; a long narrow snout with a fleshy, slightly projecting tip; jaws long and pointed, with top jaw overhanging; top jaw teeth small, conical, multiple rows; bottom jaw teeth small, conical, in bands; roof of mouth with a central patch of teeth (not reaching patch between front jaws) and bands of small conical teeth along sides; pectoral fins absent; gill opening a crescent, low on side; dorsal fin origin slightly behind gill opening; dorsal and anal fins confluent with tail fin; lateral line complete, on head and body.

Preserved fish tan with black-edged fins.

Reaches at least 63 cm.

Probably lives in soft bottoms.

Depth range 75-3109 m.

Bermuda to the southern Brazil.
