Colombian sand-eel

Body very elongate; head and trunk 52-56% of TL; tip of tail finless, hard, blunt; head and throat with longitudinal folds; eye small (4.1-5.5% TL); snout short, pointed, grooved on underside; front nostril tubular, rear nostril opens in top lip, without a flap; jaw teeth small, conical, in 1 row on jaws, 3 large teeth at front between top jaws in a V shaped groove under snout that are exposed when mouth is closed, vomer with 13-17 teeth; gill opening vertical, at lower side; dorsal and anal fins low; dorsal origin before gill opening; pectoral fin minute, 12.3-24.7% of gill opening length, moderately long (length 17-33% base length), triangular, ends in a filament; lateral line complete, lines of each side of head connected by 2 canals with across top of head.

Strongly bicolored, dark brown above, light brown to cream below; fins pale.

Reaches 48 cm.

Sandy bottoms.

Depth range: 5-10 m.
