Elongate worm-eel

Worm-like; extremely elongate (body depth 1-1.5% of TL), compressed; head and trunk 35-39% of TL; head short, 5.2-6.1% of TL; eye over rear 1/3 of mouth; snout swollen, with papillae, slightly overhanging, without groove on underside; front nostril tubular, flared at edge, with a short side barbel, rear one an irregular elongate slit before lower edge of eye; lips without barbels, teeth small, conical, sharp, a patch or ring of 7-8 teeth at front top, those continuous with a double-row patch  followed by a single row on vomer; 1 row of teeth on both jaws (2 rows at front of lower jaws), 17-20 above, 24-27 teeth below; gill opening small, low on side; dorsal fin origin behind mid-trunk; pectoral fin minute to not apparent, a small fringe or flap at top of gill opening; dorsal and anal fins confluent with tail fin; tail flexible, tail fin not obvious; lateral line complete, lines of each side of head connected by 2 canals with across top of head; head pores conspicuous, with raised edges.

Preserved fish uniform brown, with a silvery blue cast, slightly darker along each side of lateral line; anus in a pale patch; fins clear.

Reaches 37 cm.

Lives on soft bottoms.

Depth range: 320-755 m.
