Mosaic worm-eel
Body moderately elongate (depth 2.2% TL), compressed; tail 63% TL, tip flexible; head 9% TL; eye large (8% of head), over rear ½ of mouth; snout 22% of head, ~conical, broad from above, not grooved below, slightly overhanging; front nostril tubular, rear nostril on outer edge of lip, covered by a flap; lips without barbels; teeth small, conical, similar size, close set, in a single row on both jaws and vomer; a patch of 11 teeth between top jaws join row of 22 on vomer; top jaw with row of 24-30, lower jaw with row of 34, plus 1-2 inner teeth inside junction of the jaws; gill opening a small crescent on mid-side; dorsal fin origin at mid-trunk; dorsal, anal and tail fins relatively high, tail fin confluent with dorsal and anal fins, rays visible; pectoral fin minute (2.7% of head length), but visible.
Preserved fish: yellowish, peppered with dark dots; throat and belly white.
Reaches 41 cm
Lives on soft bottoms
Depth range 393-451 m
Known from a single fish caught off Anguilla.
