Disc quadrangular, 1.35X wider than long; snout with a simple, sharp point, with a support cartilage; disc front edge slightly sinuous to abruptly rounded tips of pectoral fins, convex at rear; pelvic fins large, deeply indented separation of leg-like front and rear lobes; tail broad at front, tapering to first dorsal fin, moderately long, 58% of TL; lateral tail folds low at front, widening behind, from rear tips of pelvics to end of tail; two dorsal fins, medium–sized, similar in size and shape with rounded tips, those very close, separated by a space 0.15X base of 1st dorsal; upper surface of disc & tail, as well as pelvics and dorsal fins densely covered with fine denticles, upper surface with thorns (adult): on ~10 in an irregular row along rostrum, 11 around inner edge of eye; nape with 5 thorns, shoulders with 1 pair of thorns; thorns along mid-back on rear half of disc; in a single row of ~27 (with 2-3 rows on each side at rear of disc), merging behind pelvics with double row of ~35 to 1st dorsal fin; 2 or more irregular rows along tail; lower body surface without denticles; lower surface of tail of adults without denticles.
Upper surface light brown, with numerous irregular, indistinct brown spots of varying sizes, 0.25-1X eye diameter; lower surface white, with grey edges
