Body moderately elongate, relatively slender, body depth at dorsal fin origin 20-24% SL, and compressed; head pointed, with nearly straight upper profile; eye moderately large (7.8-9.4% SL); front nostril tubular, near top lip; mouth moderately large, slightly oblique, lower jaw projecting; rear of top jaw exposed when mouth closed, without accessory bone above it, lower rear corner of top jaw bone with prominent, bluntly pointed, ventral projection; rear edge of preopercle not serrated; operculum with 3 broad flat spines at rear; 17-19 gill rakers, including rudiments; dorsal fin IX , 11, rear part of spinous dorsal weakly indented, 3rd spine longest; anal fin III, 8.5, rear edge pointed; pectoral 14-15; tail base deep, strongly compressed; tail slightly forked; scales small, rough, 47-48 with pores on lateral line.
Head white, a bright yellow stripe from tip of snout, through eye to top corner of operculum, top of snout and over eye pink, nape yellow; iris white, with a yellow stripe across middle; body with upper half yellow, white below with a pinkish tint along upper part of white zone; a broad band of yellow spots along mid-side of body and tail base, on both the yellow and white zones; dorsal, tail and anal fins yellow; pelvics white with yellow front edge; pectorals clear. Juvenile similar to adult, but with upper body pinkish, most of body with yellow spots, upper body profile yellow.
Reaches 10.4 cm.
Lives on reefs.
Depth range: 105-229 m.
Known only from Curacao, S Caribbean.
