Longfin Cigarfish
Body elongate, slender, soft and flexible; large eye with a fatty ring around it; mouth small, usually ends before eye; teeth small, pointed, curved, in~ 1 row on jaws; blunt knobby teeth on front (oval patch) and sides (1 row) of roof of mouth & an oval patch on tongue; 6-10 + 16-18 gill rakers; 2 dorsal fins, 1st with origin behind pectoral origin, XI-XII + I, 21-24; anal fin III,19-23; pectoral fins long, in adults extend past anal origin, 21-24 rays; pelvic fins insert below or slightly behind pectoral base; tail fin forked, with blunt tips; lateral line high along back; branched mucous canal along flank; scales moderate, smooth, 59-69 on lateral line; scales along top of head, and snout almost to nostrils; no bony keel along breast.
Bluey black head, body & fins.
Size: 92 cm.
Habitat: oceanic.
Depth: 0-100 m.
Subtropical to temperate N Atlantic; the Grand Banks to the Gulf of Mexico.
