Body slender, only slightly depressed at front, relatively deep (depth 28-33% SL); head narrow, snout short, profile not very steep; mouth opening underneath; eyes relatively small, relatively far apart (diameter = 63-83% of distance between eyes) ; front nostril an elongate tube, without a flap; rear nostrils slightly tubular; top lip broad at front, narrow on sides; teeth in 1 irregular rows on both jaws, 3-pointed incisors at front, 1-2 points at rear; 7 gill rakers; median fins short; 1 dorsal fin, at rear, no spines, 7-8; anal fin 7-9, like dorsal fin and under it; first ray hidden on dorsal and anal fins; pectoral rays 28-30; a poorly developed fleshy pad on lower pectoral base; sucker large, papillae small, center of sucker with an irregular cluster of 14 scattered papillae, behind that 5 papilla in a V shaped group; rear edge of sucker almost straight; no scales; lateral line present as pores on head only.

Salmon orange with a chain pattern of pale spots along the side of the body; iris white, with a slight orange cast; 6 bright salmon orange lines radiate from eye, towards the front, under the eye and to the rear towards the rear of the nape; dorsal and anal fins orange, with dark red edges, and with a dark-red ringed violet spot at the outer edge of the front of each fin; tail fin orange, with a dark red outer edge and 2 pale spots on its base

Reaches 3.1 cm.

Lives on strongly sloping coral rubble banks

Depth range: 146-265 m.

Known only from the NW Caribbean.
