Yellow Basslet
Elongate, compressed body; eye large, snout short; mouth at front; teeth on jaws, front and sides of roof of mouth; preopercle edge smooth; opercle with 1 short, flat projection; gill rakers long, 12 lower rakers; dorsal fin XII, 9; anal fin III, 8; pectorals rounded, 16; pelvics I, 5, with 1st ray elongated, reaching past anal fin base; short rays on upper and lower base of tail fin thick and spiny; no lateral line; 20 lateral scales.
Head and body bright lemon yellow to canary yellow, paler below; eye grey; a thin black bar through center of eye, and down the cheek; dorsal fin yellow, with oblique white bars on soft dorsal; a large, round black spot on the soft dorsal base, extending onto the upper back; tail fin yellow; inner 2/3 of anal fin clear, with several rows of yellow spots, outer fin yellow, with a black edge; pelvics white, with yellow spots.
Reaches 3.1 cm
Lives on deep reefs.
Depth range: 202-285 m.
